Sea Salt & Chocolate Covered Candied Blood Orange

Writer's picture: My Gourmet HomeMy Gourmet Home

These oranges are so delicious, I ended up making two batches within the same week (first batch was devoured in a day!).

Ingredients:

  • 2 blood oranges

  • 3/4 cup of sugar

  • 1 TBSP pure maple syrup (or corn syrup)

  • semi-sweet chocolate chips

  • Maldon salt

  1. Slice the oranges.

  2. In a large pot combine 2 cups of water, sugar and maple syrup. Bring to boil. Place the oranges in the liquid in a single layer. Reduce the heat and simmer for an hour. NOTE: Watch them towards the end as the liquid turns "syrupy" so you don't burn them.

  3. Remove the orange slices from the liquid and place them on a parchment paper. Let them stand for at least 24 hrs.

  4. Melt chocolate in a water bath (place a small pot with chocolate chips inside a larger pot with water - bring the water to boil on the stove; the heat from the boiling water will melt the chocolate).

  5. Dip the orange slices half-way in the chocolate.

  6. Sprinkle with sea salt.

  7. Wait for the chocolate to harden before eating (if you can resist the temptation!)

Bon Appetite!
